December 2023 Horror Preview

What a year!

Let’s ring in the new year with a bang and enjoy the last horror preview of 2023!

December 1st

Godzilla Minus One:

A sequel to 2016’s SHIN GODZILLA, Godzilla Minus One hits the States after its Japanese premiere in October, proving that even after 37 (!!!) films, Godzilla is still a franchise juggernaut.

Just in the short time since its release, the film has received critical acclaim and united usually divided critics and audiences.

Lighting Hollywood ablaze, the film has even attracted the attention of everyone from Seth Green to Gareth Edwards with particular praise for its impressive visuals, tight budget, and insanely successful box office run. This is a must-see film event for Kaiju horror fans everywhere.

December 8th

Lord of Misrule: From director, William Brent Bell (ORPHAN: FIRST KILL, THE BOY), comes this fascinating and atmospheric A24-style folk horror about a family wrecked with grief after their daughter goes missing during a small town’s harvest festival.

Shocking secrets soon come to light about the town and its inhabitant’s dark past as well as rumors of a malevolent spirit seeking sacrifice.

The Sacrifice Game: Last but not least, releasing directly to Shudder later this month is The Sacrifice Game – a feminist horror film in the style of 2019’s BLACK CHRISTMAS that tells the story of a group of young women at an all-girl boarding school terrorized by a psychotic gang of murderers.

While not exactly my cup of tea per se, the impressive cast of young up-and-comers does boast Olivia Scott Welsh of the FEAR STREET films and Mena Massoud (DISNEY’S ALADDIN).
