HALF-O-WEEN from Red River Horror

New Year…New Horror.

Let’s take a trip through 2025 in horror in Red River Horror’s HALF-O-WEEN!

January 7th

George A. Romero’s Resident Evil: In the style of JUDOROWSKY’S DUNE, director Brandon Salisbury explores the fascinating “what if” of legendary director George A. Romero’s (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, DAWN OF THE DEAD) Resident Evil adaptation. Interviews with horror icons, aficionados, and video game experts examine the long lost and never realized project long before the Paul W.S Anderson adaptation some 20+ years later.

January 13th

Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare: Another public domain children’s story gone horror that no one asked for – Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare is the latest from Scott Chambers (WINNIE THE POOH: BLOOD AND HONEY 2) . Somehow set in the same universe as Blood and Honey, this film is…oh, who really cares? If mean spirited, cheaply made, trashy remakes are your jam, check out Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare.

January 17th

The Wolfman: Hot off the heels of indie darling THE INVISIBLE MAN, Leigh Whannell’s (SAW, THE CONJURING) latest Universal horror reimagining looks like a howling good time – the film stars Julia Garner (OZARK), Christopher Abbot (MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE), and Matilda Firth (SUBSERVIENCE) – while I was more excited when the film was first announced with Derek Cianfrance and Ryan Gosling attached to direct and star respectively, I’m still willing to give the film a shot and will be first in line when it hits theaters late this month.

Six more weeks of winter, love is in the air, and horror is soon to follow! Happy Groundhog’s Day Happy Valentines Day, get ready for March Madness, yadda yadda, here’s the preview!

February 7th

Heart Eyes: Josh Ruben (WEREWOLVES WITHIN, SCARE ME) returns to the director’s chair with a darkly comedic bloodbath about a couple fighting back against a mysterious “Heart Eyes Killer” who only strikes unsuspecting couples every Valentine’s Day, all while trying to fix their broken relationship in a film that blends Rom Com and Slasher . This unique blend of genre faire stars Devon Sawa (FINAL DESTINATION), Jordana Brewster (THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS), and Mason Gooding (BALLERS.)

February 14th

The Gorge: Anya Taylor Joy (THE VVITCH, LAST NIGHT IN SOHO) and Miles Teller (F4NTASTIC) star in this sci-fi horror from the absolute mad genius behind THE BLACK PHONE and SINISTER, Scott Derrickson – two elite military snipers are both hired to keep watch of a mysterious gorge and keep the demonic creatures inside at bay. Will their efforts be in vain or will good and the military industrial complex prevail? Find out when The Gorge hits Apple.TV later this month!

February 21st

The Monkey: Last but not least, one of my favorite directors to debut in recent memory, Osgood Perkins, still hot off the massively successful and immaculately crafted LONGLEGS, returns with this biting black comedy horror romp adapted from the Stephen King story of the same name – the film is produced by none other than James Wan (SAW, INSIDIOUS) and stars Tatiana Maslany (ORPHAN BLACK) and Elijah Wood (THE LORD OF THE RINGS). Probably one of my most hyped films of the year – absolutely stoked to see it when it hits theaters later this month.

March Madness! Mutants! Murderers! Mayhem! Wait…

March 21st

Ash: Eiza Gonzalez (BABY DRIVER, AMBULANCE), Aaron Paul (BREAKING BAD), and Iko Uwais (THE RAID 2) star in this modern-day sci-fi horror about a young space-faring woman who awakens to find the rest of her crew indiscriminately and brutally slaughtered on a strange planet.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say the trailer doesn’t look at least a little generic, that said – it does still look somewhat promising and the cast and crew involved does a lot of heavy lifting for my excitement.

Locked: Hot off the success of Robert Eggers’ masterful NOSFERATU, Bill Skarsgård plays a small time thief caught in a tangled web of cat and mouse. After breaking into a luxury SUV, the thief soon discovers it was nothing but an elaborate trap set by a psychotic Jigsaw-esque maniac (Anthony Hopkins) hunting for a victim.

Honestly, seeing Hopkins in another Hannibal Lecter type role is reason enough for my price of my admission.

March 28th

Death of a Unicorn: Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd star in this horror comedy as a father/daughter duo trying to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city however their family vacation is complicated and cut short when they hit a unicorn on the way.

Making matters worse is Rudd’s employer, played by Richard E. Grant, who seeks to exploit the mythical creature’s healing abilities.

I wasn’t expecting the title to be so literal but I gotta admire the film’s commitment to the bit and the raw originality if nothing else.
