The Nun II: A Terrifying Return to the Conjuring Universe
You probably remember the chilling appearance of the demon nun Valak in The Conjuring 2 and The Nun. The Nun followed Father Burke and Sister Irene, a priest and a nun in training, as they investigated a mysterious suicide at a Romanian monastery in 1952. There, they encountered Valak, a powerful entity that took the form of a nun to haunt and possess the sisters. The film ended with a shocking twist that connected it to the events of The Conjuring.
Now, the evil is back in The Nun II, the next chapter in the story of Valak and Sister Irene. The film is set to hit theaters on September 8, 2023, and it promises to be even more terrifying than the first one. And…it’s rated R!
The trailer opens with a scene of a priest being murdered in France in 1956. We then see Sister Irene, played by Taissa Farmiga, who returns to reprise her role from The Nun. She is haunted by visions of Valak, who is still after her soul. She is joined by Frenchie, played by Jonas Bloquet, who also survived the ordeal at the monastery. They are contacted by the Vatican, who informs them that Valak is spreading its influence across Europe and that they need to stop it before it unleashes hell on Earth.
The trailer then shows us some of the locations and characters that will be featured in the film. We see a Gothic castle, a dark forest, a creepy carnival, and a sinister convent. We also meet some of the new faces that will join the cast, such as Storm Reid as Alice – a young girl who has a connection to Valak; Anna Popplewell as Sister Catherine, a nun who helps Irene and Frenchie; and Bonnie Aarons as Valak itself, who reprises her role from The Nun and The Conjuring 2.
The trailer also reveals some of the scares and action that we can expect from the film. We see Valak appearing in mirrors, paintings, shadows, and dreams. We see Irene and Frenchie fighting off possessed nuns, zombies, clowns, and other horrors. We see Valak chasing them through corridors, tunnels, and graveyards. And we see Irene confronting Valak in a final showdown that will determine her fate and the fate of the world.
The Nun II is directed by Michael Chaves, who also helmed The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. The screenplay is written by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing and Akela Cooper, based on a story by Cooper and characters created by James Wan & Gary Dauberman. The film is produced by Peter Safran and James Wan, who has collaborated on all of the previous Conjuring films.
