June 2024 Horror Preview

Happy Pride Month to all of our LGBTQIA+ Readers, have a gay old time with this time horror preview!

June 7th

The Watchers:

Ishana Shyamalan, daughter of (sometimes) horror maestro, M. Night Shyamalan, releases her feature film debut and seeks to pave her own legacy early this month with THE WATCHERS – the story of a young artist who finds herself trapped together in a winding and immaculate Irish forest with a group of strangers stalked by mysterious creatures of the night. The film stars Dakota Fanning (MAN ON FIRE, WAR OF THE WORLDS) and Georgina Campbell (BARBARIAN) and features some gorgeous cinematography from none other than Eli Arenson (A24’s LAMB).

The Exorcism:

Another feature film debut!

Russell Crowe starring in an Exorcist knockoff? What is this? 2023?

QUEEN OF THE SOUTH alum Joshua John Miller writes and directs this occult chiller about a troubled actor displaying signs of supernatural possession while filming a horror movie. Interestingly enough and adding yet another meta-textual layer, Joshua John Miller is also the son of actor Jason Miller who played Father Damien Karras in William Friedkin’s THE EXORCIST.

While I love Russell Crowe and meta-horror, after the disappointment of THE POPE’S EXORCIST – color me… intrigued?

A Quiet Place: Day One:

Speaking of THE EXORCIST, see the prequel to the film William Friedkin himself described as “a classic horror” – Lupita Nyong’o (US) and Joseph Quinn (STRANGER THINGS) star in the film that seeks to explore the titular first day of invasion as demonic sound sensitive beings descend upon the earth.

Michael Sarnoski (PIG) takes over directing duties for John Krasinski and it also reunites Michael Sarnoski with his PIG alum, Alex Wolff (HEREDITARY).

See how it all went down when A Quiet Place Day One drops in theaters later this month!
