October 2024 Horror Roundup
Hope the Halloween holiday and the month was fully enjoyed — from all of us here at Red River Horror!

Salem’s Lot:
Salem’s Lot is the third adaptation of the 1975 novel of the same name by horror legend Stephen King – the chilling story of a writer who returns to his hometown to finish a book about his childhood only to discover the town is slowly being turned into vicious and bloodthirsty vampires.
Though the original 1979 adaptation has become a major cult classic, this latest film has received mixed reviews despite a talented cast, and the crew behind IT and THE CONJURING at the helm.
Is it as good as the original or has all the blood been drained dry from this Stephen King classic? You decide when it hits Max early this month.

V/H/S Beyond: The seventh installment and ninth overall in the V/H/S franchise boasts a sci-fi twist in the same vein as JASON X or HELLRAISER: BLOODLINE – reviews have been mostly positive and the segments include Justin Long’s much talked about directorial debut “Fur Babies” as well as the Mike Flanagan written “Stowaway”
You can catch this anthology of thrills and chills on Shudder!
Frankie Freako: As a filmmaker myself and a lover of homage, this piques my interest if for no other reason than just how genuinely vintage it looks – not like a filmmaker trying to make an 80s-style film, but a film that legitimately looks like a long lost VHS.
The story from PSYCHO GOREMAN director Steven Kostanski follows an up-tight yuppie who seemingly has it all, who in an attempt to shake up his boring successful life, calls a 1-800 number that knowingly unleashes the titular party gremlin into our world.
If nothing else, this movie looks fun and daringly original. Consider me first in line.

Caddo Lake: Starring Dylan O’Brien (TEEN WOLF), Eliza Scanlen (OLD), and Eric Lange (ANTEBELLUM), this M. Night Shyamalan-produced thriller was shot in Shreveport, Louisana (much like THE MIST), the official synopsis reads…
“When an eight-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes, a series of past deaths and disappearances start to link together, forever altering a broken family’s history.”
While reviews have been mixed, I do love a good Southern gothic thriller.

Terrifier 3: A psychopathic supernatural clown in a Santa costume goes on a murderous rampage…
Damien Leone is a true independent genre cinema filmmaker – while I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of Terrifier, I can at the very least admire Damien’s ambition, dedication, passion, and overall truly independent spirit – reviews have already been overwhelmingly positive and the third installment in this Art-ology has already made 18.3 million on a budget of 2 million, blowing the other clown crime chiller at the box office, JOKER:FOLIE A DEUX, out of the water.
Hats off to Leone and his team.

Smile 2:
Last but not least, another sequel!
Naomi Scott (ALADDIN, CHARLIE’S ANGELS), Kyle Gallner (SMALLVILLE, CSI: NY), and Lukas Gage (EUPHORIA, FARGO) star in this exciting sequel about a world-famous pop singer, who is haunted by a mysterious smiling entity as she experiences strange and sinister events ahead of her first world tour.
First TRAP, and now SMILE 2, when will these psychopathic serial killers and supernatural beings of unimaginable evil leave these poor pop singers alone?
