August 2024 Horror Preview

Summer horror blockbusters abound! Let’s jump right into that preview!

August 2nd

TRAP: PSYCHO meets THE ERAS TOUR – the story of a violent serial killer caught in the crosshairs of an FBI sting operation designed to catch him at a pop star concert of all places is director M. Night Shyamalan’s latest spin on the genre.

The film stars Josh Hartnett (OPPENHEIMER, THE FACULTY), Ariel Donoghue (WOLF LIKE ME), and Hayley Mills (DEADLY STRANGERS, THAT DARN CAT) – While I’m not the biggest Shyamalan fan (or hater, for that matter), Trap boasts an impressive cast and an exciting premise which is more than enough to pique my morbid curiosity and catch it when it hits theaters early this month.

August 9th

Cuckoo: Tilman Singer (LUZ) directs this familiar story of a family vacation in the alps gone horribly awry, the film stars Jessica Henwick and Dan Stevens as well as multitalented actress, model, and trans rights activist, Hunter Schaefer (EUPHORIA) who can now add scream queen to her already impressive resume.

Color me more than hyped for this one.

August 16th

Alien: Romulus: Fede Alvarez (DON’T BREATHE, THE EVIL DEAD) tries to recapture the spirit of the original masterpiece in this Ridley Scott produced legacy prequel (?) – taking place between the events of ALIEN and ALIENS, a new set of space colonizers must work together or die trying when they inadvertently stumble upon a nest of incubated voracious facehuggers.

Hopefully, I enjoy this more than I did the last five or so Alien films, and more than I did BLADE RUNNER 2049 (sorry, not sorry!)

August 23rd

Blink Twice:

Last but certainly not least –

Zoe Kravitz’ directorial debut Blink Twice looks like a cross between EYES WIDE SHUT and BODIES BODIES BODIES. The film is about a young waitress and her friend who get whisked away to a billionaire’s tropical island retreat that may just have a bevy of sinister secrets lurking beneath the glossy surface – Naomi Ackie, Christian Slater, and Kyle Maclachlan also star in a film featuring Channing Tatum as the ever charming and mysterious not quite Epstein oligarch Slater King.
