November 2023 Horror Preview
Halloween has come and gone, but as they say: The show must go on! Get ready to get carved and stuffed this season… Wait, is that cranberry sauce?!
Now onto the horror preview.
November 3rd
Squealer: Andy Armstrong’s directorial debut is a grounded, gritty, and low-budget procedural crime drama about the real-life horrors of Canadian serial killer, Robert Pickton.
Starring the likes of Wes Chatham (THE EXPANSE, IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH), Theo Rossi (LUKE CAGE, SONS OF ANARCHY), and Tyrese Gibson (MORBIUS, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS), Squealer looks like an admirable horror/crime debut from a promising up-and-comer.

It’s a Wonderful Knife: SCREAM meets IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE – a young teenager with survivor’s guilt laments her own existence as a masked murderer terrorizes her Christmas-obsessed small town.
Genre veteran Justin Long and Joel McHale (COMMUNITY, ASSASSINATION NATION) round out the cast of this fun horror twist on the classic fable. This film is one I can’t wait to check out when it hits streaming later this month!
November 12th
Iron Lung: A bit of an outlier this month is Iron Lung, written and directed by internet celebrity, Youtuber, and streamer, Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) – based on the science fiction horror video game of the same name, Iron Lung is the Lovecraftian story of a lone ex-felon with nothing but a downed submarine to investigate a disturbance on a desolate moon.
In light of recent events, is this in bad taste? Some sure seem to think so.
What awaits our intrepid explorer besides an entire ocean of blood? Find out when Iron Lung hits limited release later this month.

Thanksgiving:
Last, but certainly not least, a film over 15 years in the making!
According to Sony Pictures, the official synopsis is as follows…
“After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the holiday. Picking off residents one by one, what begins as random revenge killings are soon revealed to be part of a larger, sinister holiday plan. Will the town uncover the killer and survive the holidays…or become guests at his twisted holiday dinner table?“
Back in 2007, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino debuted GRINDHOUSE – a double feature event where cinemas played Rodriguez’ PLANET TERROR and Tarantino’s DEATH PROOF back to back.
In between these two films were fake trailers shot by some of the duo’s famous friends – Edgar Wright, Rob Zombie etc.
Eli Roth’s contribution to those trailers, THANKSGIVING, follows in the footsteps of Rodriguez’s MACHETE and HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN by becoming a full-length feature film adaptation. Ditching the dirty film grain look of its 2007 iteration for a more polished feel, Thanksgiving is a throwback to classic slasher fare like HALLOWEEN, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and BLACK CHRISTMAS – Thanksgiving also boasts an incredible cast featuring the talents of Patrick Dempsey, Gina Gershon, Addison Rae, and Roth’s frequent collaborator and friend, Rick Hoffman.
I’m definitely going to be first in line for this one.
